Artur Sitkowski The Most Experienced Quarterback On The Roster Is Currently The Frontrunner

Illinois Starting QB 2024: Bielema Considers Multiple Options

Artur Sitkowski, the most experienced quarterback on the roster, is currently the frontrunner.

Illinois is coming off a successful 2023 season, finishing 8-5 and earning a berth in the ReliaQuest Bowl. One of the biggest questions surrounding the team heading into 2024 is who will start at quarterback.

Artur Sitkowski, the most experienced quarterback on the roster, is the current frontrunner. However, Tommy DeVito, who started the final four games of the 2023 season, is also in the mix.

Tommy DeVito played well in his starts last season, completing 65.2% of his passes for 1,082 yards, 10 touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Sitkowski has more experience, starting 15 games over the past two seasons. However, he has struggled with accuracy and decision-making at times.

Other quarterbacks on the roster include redshirt freshman Donovan Leary and true freshman Miles McVay.

Leary is a former four-star recruit who has impressed the coaching staff with his arm strength and athleticism. McVay is a highly touted recruit who enrolled early.

Head coach Bret Bielema has not yet named a starting quarterback, but he has said that he will make a decision before the start of spring practice.

Here are some of the factors that Bielema will consider when making his decision:

  1. Experience
  2. Accuracy
  3. Decision-making
  4. Arm strength
  5. Athleticism

Ultimately, Bielema will choose the quarterback who he believes gives the Illini the best chance to win in 2024.
